Basisschool ’t Paviljoen in Ossendrecht krijgt een complete metamorfose. Het is een zogenoemd vernieuwbouwproject. Dit betekent dat de muren blijven staan, een deel gesloopt wordt en er een kleine bovenverdieping bijkomt. Een stukje nieuwbouw dus, maar vooral veel verbouwen. Vrijdag zijn de plannen gepresenteerd.
Een deel van het schoolgebouw gaat tegen de vlakte. ”Het is nu een heel uitgesmeerd gebouw”, vertelt architect Thomas Vullings. ”Er is teveel ruimte.” Hierdoor is de indeling van het gebouw onlogisch. ”Daarom gaan we het compacter maken.” Om niet teveel ruimte te verliezen komt er een kleine bovenverdieping. Ook komen er leerpleinen en grote schuifpuien tussen deze pleinen en de klaslokalen.
Doordat het gebouw kleiner wordt, groeit het schoolplein juist. ”Daar willen we een natuurlijk en speels terrein van maken”, vervolgt de architect. ”Ook zijn er plannen voor een groen dak en flink wat zonnepanelen.”

De ontwerpen voor de vernieuwde school.
Met de vernieuwing van het gebouw wordt de voorziening van een lagere school, kinderopvang en bibliotheek gegarandeerd voor de komende veertig jaar. Een mooie ontwikkeling volgens wethouder Lars van der Beek. Waar de leerlingen terecht kunnen tijdens de verbouwing wordt nog even puzzelen. ”Het is de bedoeling dat een deel van het gebouw tijdens de verbouwing openblijft. Maar we gaan ook het gebruik van noodlokalen onderzoeken en we vragen de architect om hierin mee te denken.”
Overgang
Directeur Jannie Bouwens is ontzettend blij met de nieuwe plannen. ”Het allerbelangrijkste is voor onze school de vloeiende overgang van kinderopvang naar onderwijs.” En naar die wens is zeker geluisterd. ”Omdat het gebouw straks compacter is kan de doorstroom van peuteropvang naar onderwijs vloeiender verlopen.” Ze kan dan ook niet wachten tot het zover is. ”De architect heeft zo goed naar onze wensen geluisterd.”
De school organiseert binnenkort een informatiebijeenkomst. Ook gaan ze een omgevingsdialoog voeren met de buurt. Dit gebeurt nadat de plannen verder uitgewerkt en doorgerekend zijn.
