Daltonschool De Welle en OBS De Noordster konden vrijdagochtend rekenen op hoog bezoek. Prins Wannes III kwam namelijk samen met zijn gevolg en jeugdburgemeester Dex van Fessem langs om officieel de vastenavend af te trappen.

Het schoolplein staat vol met kinderen in afwachting van de prins. Dit jaar vindt voor het eerst Krabbekes Vrijdag plaats. Prins Wannes III gaat speciaal hiervoor samen met zijn gevolg langs verschillende scholen om daar de leut te brengen.

Krabbekes Vrijdag is naast de aftrap van vastenavend ook de afsluiting van alle vastenavendactiviteiten op scholen voordat de vakantie begint. Tijdens de ochtend was er ook een rol weggelegd voor jeugdburgemeester Dex. Hij mocht alle leerlingen toespreken en ze veel plezier wensen tijdens de vastenavend. “Ik vind het erg fijn dat ik hier mag zijn om Krabbekes Vrijdag officieel te openen. Ik heb enorm veel zin in deze dagen”, vertelt hij op het podium.

“We hebben het goed gevierd hier op school”, begint de Prins. “We hebben onder andere de Zevensprong gedaan met de kinderen.” Omdat de Prins niet langs alle scholen kan gaan, is er voor de andere scholen een videoboodschap opgenomen. Daarin spreekt hij de kinderen toe. De scholen waar hij dit jaar niet komt, komen de aankomende jaren aan de beurt, laat stichting Vastenavend weten.

Erbij betrekken

Volgens schooldirectrice Armanda Bruijs is het goed om de kinderen al vroeg mee te nemen in alle activiteiten. “We merken dat het leeft onder de kinderen. Ze zijn er echt wel mee bezig.” Prins Wannes III benadrukt op zijn beurt dat verbinding maken belangrijk is. “De jeugd hier heeft de leut wel in hun lijf zitten. Dat komt wel goed.”

De zevenjarige Lizzy uit groep vier houdt wel van een feestje. “Ik vind het erg gezellig. Ik ga in de vakantie vaak naar de stad om carnaval te vieren.” Leeftijdsgenoot Eden heeft ook genoten van de ochtend. In zijn prinsenpak heeft hij goed meegefeest. “Ik zou later ook wel prins willen worden. Dat lijkt me wel wat.”
