Asfaltmachines, stoomwalsen en vrachtwagens rijden donderdag af en aan op de Plantagebaan in Wouw. Daar wordt de laatste hand gelegd aan de herinrichting van die straat.

Begin juni ging de herinrichting op het gedeelte tussen de Molensingel en de spoorwegovergang aan de Plantagebaan van start. De bedoeling was dat de werkzaamheden voor de bouwvak af zouden zijn, maar dat is dus niet gelukt. “Er moesten ondergrondse gasleidingen verlegd worden maar daar was te weinig personeel voor. Om die reden heeft het project vertraging opgelopen”, zegt Arjan Buijsen, projectleider bij de gemeente Roosendaal. In augustus werd de afsluiting van de Plantagebaan tijdelijk opgeschort, om overlast te voorkomen.

Vrachtverkeer

Ondertussen is de wegreconstructie weer hervat. De klinkers zijn verwijderd en daar komt asfaltverharding voor in de plaats. “Dit stuk van de weg wordt altijd druk bereden, ook met vrachtverkeer”, geeft Buijsen als verklaring. Aangezien de weg toch open lag, is er gelijk een deel van de riolering vervangen.

Snelfietsroute F58

Belangrijk onderdeel van de herinrichting is de F58, dat is de toekomstige snelfietsroute tussen de steden Roosendaal en Bergen op Zoom. Met oog op de toename van mensen met een elektrische fiets is de weg een stuk breder dan een regulier fietspad: 2,5 meter. De fietsroute van 13 kilometer lang zal naar verwachting in 2023 klaar zijn.

Bebouwde kom

Dat de klinkerweg veranderd in een asfaltweg zou de illusie kunnen wekken dat er harder gereden mag worden. Maar niets is minder waar. Het snelheidsregime wordt juist naar beneden aangepast. Waar je voorheen nog met 80 kilometer per uur Wouw tegemoet mocht scheuren, is die snelheid nu verlaagd naar 50 kilometer per uur. Het bord dat de bebouwde kom aangeeft, komt ook tientallen meters dichter bij de spoorwegovergang te staan. Nieuwbouwproject De Hoogt valt daarmee ook gelijk binnen de bebouwde kom.

Als alles meezit kan de Plantagebaan vrijdag 8 oktober aan het eind van de dag open voor het doorgaande verkeer.
