Nu de werkzaamheden aan de kruising van de Markiezaatsweg met de Calandweg in Bergen op Zoom begonnen zijn, neemt de verkeersdrukte bij andere kruispunten toe. Vooral bij de kruising Westersingel met de Van Konijnenburgweg kan het verkeer flink vastlopen, merkte de gemeente. Daarom worden er voorlopig tijdens de spitsuren verkeersregelaars ingezet.
De kruising vlakbij winkelcentrum De Zeeland en de bioscoop is dicht van 11 augustus tot en met 19 september. Er komen extra rijstroken en ook de verkeerslichten worden vervangen. Het is een drukbezocht kruispunt waar dagelijks duizenden voertuigen passeren. Ook veel vrachtverkeer.

Al dat verkeer moet voorlopig omrijden. Snel na de start van de werkzaamheden is het de gemeente opgevallen dat het kruispunt van de Westersingel met de Van Konijnenburgweg niet goed doorloopt. Daarom komen er dagelijks van 15.30 uur tot 18.30 uur verkeersregelaars om het verkeer in goede banen te leiden.
De gemeente benadrukt dat het belangrijk is om goed op de signalen te letten van de verkeersregelaars. “Als iedereen alert blijft, kunnen we samen zorgen voor een vlottere doorstroming.” Verkeer dat vanaf Halsteren richting de Plaat wil, kan het beste omrijden via afrit 29 – Olympialaan – Laan van Borgvliet – Markiezaatsweg. “Dat is sneller”, aldus de gemeente.
